This curriculum is dedicated to Rabbi Lawrence Englander, whose creative vision was the catalyst for its development and growth. Navigating Shared Space is just one of the many contributions Rabbi Englander has made over the years – and continues to make – to Reform Zionism and Israel education.
With appreciation for Rabbi Englander’s inspiration and commitment, from ARZA Canada.
Navigating Shared Space
This curriculum meets the rising need of Jewish educators to engage learners in authentic conversations about Israel and the conflicts between Israeli Jews and their neighbours.
Current research demonstrates that young children know about the conflict and have questions. Our unique inquiry-based approach welcomes learner questions while equipping teachers to address the complexities of Israel without having to know all the answers. Teachers learn along with their students, gaining the confidence to handle difficult questions. As a result of experiencing the Shared Space Curriculum learners will draw their own conclusions, frame new questions, and build their own authentic relationship with Israel.
This curriculum is designed for learners ages 9-13 and is adaptable for older learners. It also includes three parent sessions to complement the learning of their children. The curriculum can be used in a variety of educational settings including the classroom, youth group retreats and summer camp.
